Financial Analyst II, III or Senior
The purpose of the Financial Analyst position is focused on providing budget planning, forecasting and analysis for Southern Company Gas. This position will provide administration support for Oracle Planning and requires strong analytical skills with the ability to work closely with business unit leaders to analyze and assess potential financial risks and opportunities.
This position may be filled as Financial Analyst II, III or Senior. Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience, education, and certifications may be eligible for the more advanced position.
Assists with maintenance and preparation of corporate financial plan creation for budgets and forecasts.
Assess financial performance against target, including risks and opportunities to the Plan.
Provides monthly variance reporting, trending, projections, presentations, and ad-hoc analysis to support business decision makers.
Works with business area leaders to achieve desired results.
Provides support for journal entries to close the books.
Capable of developing automated internal reporting and presentation for senior management.
Performs financial and ad-hoc analysis as requested.
Supports Oracle Planning environment including:
Managing security for users/groups.
Creating and maintaining data forms.
Creating and maintaining and reports.
Creating and running business rules.
Maintaining data integrity.
Analyzes financial and non-financial data to help drive business decisions.
Articulates results, variances and key drivers effectively.
Develops recommendations and alternatives to meet objectives.
Demonstrates knowledge of the business and industry in analyses.
Fosters relationships with managers, peers, customers and is a team player.
Communicates effectively with all levels of business.
Provides support to end users of Oracle Planning.
Influences business decisions by sharing analyses and expertise.
Monitors results versus plan and works with business leaders to achieve desired results.
Identifies process and/or profit improvements.
- BS/BA degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or other requiring application of analytical techniques.
MBA or CPA/CFA
Energy company experience
Related Work Experience:
Financial Analyst II
- 2-4 years experience in financial planning, financial analysis, regulatory planning, and/or accounting or related fields
Financial Analyst III
- 4-6 years experience in financial planning, financial analysis, regulatory planning, and/or accounting or related fields
Senior Financial Analyst
7 years experience in financial planning, financial analysis, regulatory planning, and/or accounting or related fields
Experience working with senior executives individual and team basis
Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Ability to handle multiple projects with changing priorities
Ability to work independently yet keep management informed as appropriate
Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint
Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
Understanding of ERP/Financial systems and databases Preferred:
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Knowledge of Oracle Planning
