Job Summary:
The PowerSecure Air Permitting Engineer position is responsible for administering programs that ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and permit requirements. Major job responsibilities include preparing, reviewing and submitting air permit applications and various environmental compliance reports for both owned and customer assets; calculating air emissions; interpreting regulations and providing guidance on air permitting requirements to support various business functions; assessing the compliance risks, cost, and schedule associated with potential projects; and interfacing with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies across the U.S. and Canada. The successful candidate must be capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment including managing technical consultants and ensuring the environmental scope remains within budget.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):
Bachelor’s Degree in environmental engineering, or other relevant engineering discipline; related degrees may be accepted with additional experience.
Minimum of 5 years work experience in the air permitting and compliance field.
Prior experience in industrial, manufacturing, or energy industries is highly preferred.
Ability to read and interpret federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations.
Ability to write, complete, and submit permit applications to regulatory agencies with limited guidance.
Ability to work with multiple internal and external parties to complete applications and submit to agencies in a timely manner.
Knowledge of air permitting process and basic environmental regulatory process.
Working knowledge of the Clean Air Act, state/district/local air quality regulations, Title V compliance requirements, source emission calculations using EPA or industry standard procedures, air pollution control technologies, and dispersion modeling.
Ability to interpret complex regulatory and permitting concepts.
Experience working with environmental consulting firms and/or regulatory/governmental agencies is preferred.
Must be proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software programs.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Strong organizational skills.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with the Air Permitting and Compliance Manager to continuously evaluate and improve the air permitting program.
Review projects and determine need for required air quality permits/registrations and compliance obligations.
Manage the development and completion of air permit applications for engine-generators and other microgrid components at various locations across the U.S. and Canada.
Administer air permitting application submittal for engine-generators and other microgrid components at various locations throughout the United States.
Coordinate with federal/state/local air permitting agencies to ensure approval of permit applications.
Coordinate multiple projects/permits at once to ensure timely submittal of applications.
Complete emissions calculations and comparisons for various engine-generators and operating scenarios.
Review air emission sources at PowerSecure facilities for regulatory and permit requirements.
Work with engineering group to obtain necessary drawings/submittals to complete application as required.
Assist in managing compliance for all owned assets engine-generators.
Assist in managing compliance for all owned assets mobile engine-generators.
Support marketing and proposal initiatives.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Ability to travel, when necessary, which will be minimal for meetings/trainings. Office work environment with some travel required to meet with local agencies in respective offices or for training.
