Job Summary

Virginia Natural Gas (VNG) is looking for dynamic, career-motivated individuals to join one of the Top Workplaces in Hampton Roads as part of our Field Operations team.

The General Technician position is an entry-level, developmental role that offers opportunity for growth and advancement. This General Technician position presents exciting opportunities for long-term career growth and stability in the growing natural gas industry.

Work is predominantly outdoors and in all weather conditions. Interested individuals must be able and willing to travel. Candidates must be able to drive safely, work extended hours; travel 5% of the time, and wear company provided Personal Protective Equipment.

This is a bargaining unit position (IBEW Local 50) and is a DOT (Department of Transportation) covered classification subject to random drug and/or alcohol screening.

This position is based in our Virginia Natural Gas office located in Virginia Beach, VA.

Representative Duties and Responsibility

• Efficiently works a route to complete customer and compliance orders in a timely manner and in accordance with company policies and procedures and operator qualifications procedures.

• Observes all safety requirements and regulatory guidelines to ensure compliance.

• Performs “soft orders” (change of account, deactivate, shut off for nonpayment, 3-year inspections and general inspections).

• Perform minor maintenance to meter sets such as splash guard installations, cleaning, and painting meters/piping.

• Performs meter observations and reads.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

Required:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.

• Job is entry level and requires no previous experience.

• Must pass the DOT drug test.

Certifications/Licenses:

Required:

• Operator Qualified in accordance with Company Plan.

• Must have a valid VA state driver's license.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

• Must be physically able to stoop, bend, crawl, walk, climb ladders and lift weights in excess of 75 pounds.

• Must also have a keen sense of smell, hearing, vision and color identification.

• Must have the ability to work in all types of terrain and weather conditions, as required.
