EEP Marketing & Communications Specialist



This position is responsible for understanding industry best practices and demonstrating in-depth marketing knowledge to support the execution of the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program marketing and outreach strategies. Leads the implementation of the brand and style guide by creating templates, graphics, presentations, and other design collateral for the energy efficiency program. Assists with material reviews. Oversees and executes Nicor Gas energy efficiency websites and email marketing in support of the overall marketing plan and strategy. Tracks, analyzes, and reports marketing metrics for effective campaigns. Coordinates and delivers internal and external communications include print media and HTML emails. Operates as the steward of the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency Program. Strategically partner with corporate communications to insure alignment and consistency with corporate branding. Produces collateral including (but not limited to) print media, display graphics, direct mail, email and HTML, digital graphics. Assists with brand development for events, customer outreach, and presentations. Coordinates with EEP staff and implementation contractors for customer engagement. Responsible for maintaining the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency programmatic website needs.


Education, Certifications/Licenses:

•Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising or equivalent experience

•In-depth knowledge of MS Office Suite including PowerPoint and Publisher

•In-depth knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign


•Adobe Certified in Graphic Design and Illustration with Adobe Illustrator or Print and Digital Media with InDesign

Related Work Experience:

•Minimum 5 years work experience in marketing, advertising or some combination of related education and work experience


•5 years Core Marketing or Advertising

•Experience in energy or environmental-related industry a plus

•Experience in marketing website traffic coordination a plus

•Google Analytics, Prezi and HTML experience is a plus

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

•Occasional local Travel: The incumbent will be required to travel on occasion.

Functional Expertise

•Uses in-depth knowledge of project management to execute website traffic and review procedures in coordination with internal departments and external consultants.

•Review and edit department presentations, reports, and external-facing branded materials and recommend best practices.

•Optimizes existing resources and leverages research to author content for marketing materials and presentations.

•Design templates for marketing materials, presentations, display graphics, and other collateral.

•Oversees and executes Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency websites and email marketing strategy and tactics.

•Design templates for marketing materials, presentations, display graphics, and other collateral.

•Play key role in execution of the Energy Efficiency Program marketing and communications plan.

•Uses best practices and knowledge to review materials for consistency with brand and identity guidelines.

•Design, coordinate and manage production of print materials, promotional items, and other collateral

•Design, create, execute, and monitor HTML emails using email marketing products.

•Design digital communications including banner ads, web tiles, and Energy Efficiency Program website graphics.

•Makes updates as needed to the Nicor Gas Energy Efficiency website.

The person in this role will primarily perform analysis of marketing data and results, including making recommendations for improvement across all marketing tactics and messaging. This person is also responsible for managing the relationship between the marketing team and the program management team, specifically supporting business and public sector energy efficiency programs. This person will coordinate the development and routing of all relevant materials between the marketing team, program management team, implementation contractors, and legal.

Assignments are quite varied and highly complex.


Although assignments in this role typically require a fixed skillset, the actual work performed varies based on departmental needs. This individual may be responsible for tracking the success of A/B test messaging, reviewing the quality of website visits, or performing an analysis of existing customer participation and demographic data to provide a comprehensive description of an ideal customer.
