JOB SUMMARY
The Buyer position is responsible for procurement activities supporting category management strategies and business partner requirements. Duties include locating sources of supply, issuing requests for quotes, conducting bidder meetings, analyzing bids, creating purchase orders (service and material), negotiating, expediting, resolving supplier problems, and other supply chain duties as required.
This position may be filled as a Buyer I (GSCO - 03), Buyer II (GSCO - 04), or Senior (GSCO - 5). Individuals who demonstrate advanced skills in terms of work experience, education, and certifications may be eligible for the more advanced position.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, Finance, Supply Chain preferred
CPM or other Supply Chain certification a plus
Experience
Knowledge and Skills
Strong knowledge of purchasing and supply chain practices and standards.
Knowledge of Uniform Commercial Code
Strong knowledge of gas, generation, power delivery and corporate equipment and material desired.
Strong knowledge of the Maximo Purchasing System
Working knowledge of Word, Excel and databases.
Strong analytical skills, communication skills and negotiating skills
Ability to interact with business unit personnel and suppliers
Ability to handle multiple transactions while under time constraints
Strict adherence to Procurement Procedures and documentation requirements
General knowledge of business practices associated with procurement, such as budgeting, traffic/logistics, contracts, engineering, risk management, accounting and legal
Key Job Responsibilities
Work closely with category manager, contract agents and business partners to best
accommodate their supply chain requirements
Develop and evaluate proposals for materials and services to determine best purchase
alternative
Issue orders for purchase of goods and services
Resolve conflicts or discrepancies involving pricing, invoicing, specifications, and contracts
Develop and maintain supplier relationships
Key Qualifications for this position include:
Gas Business experience and knowledge of Gas operations and customer/business unit expectations; how to meet business unit expectations; develop relationships with customers, team and coworkers.
Supply Chain procurement experience and ability to manage large workload with dueling priorities.
System knowledge specific to procurement functionality and basic understanding of contractual documents.
Supply Chain system application knowledge, understanding or experience related to, but not limited to, Maximo / PeopleSoft, GEP, Oracle Cloud
